Dean Field Study Centre with Swallows!

We've arrived safely and so far we are all having a brilliant time! 
We have have had a great and exciting time doing loads of activites in the tunnels where there was also a slide.  We even shut some of the hatches, so we had to find our way around in the dark!
Then we set off on a stream walk where we walked through the middle of the stream and climbed under and over lots of fallen trees.  Finally, we pulled ourselves up a steep hill by using a knotted rope! Phew!
We then made our way back for a delicious dinner of fish and chips!
Now just having some free time and then we're  off on our NIGHT WALK!

What a Sporting Week at Upper Arley!

We had such a busy week with lots of different sporting events.  We are very proud of ourselves and proud of our school!

Monday - A professional cricket player and coach visited our school

Tuesday - Tennis at Bewdley tennis club

Wednesday Swallows Cracked their Cricket skills at Stourport Cricket Club!

Thursday was our School's Sponsored Walk

We also played rounders at ST. Anne's Primary School and a great time playing against other schools!

Finally Friday - Our SSOC organised a KS1 Striking and Fielding Festival that was brilliant fun!

Phew! 



Stonehenge Mania!

Swallows have really enjoyed using their maths skills to make a scale model of Stonehenge.  We used all different materials.  Some of us used modelling clay, others used salt dough, cardboard nets and even dominos! We found some parts rather tricky, keeping it accurate and to scale, but we were very pleased with our results!

 

 

 

We then moved onto finding out how the men would have erected a stone.  We were amazed by how far they had to travel with the huge stones!  We then re-enacted erecting one of the stones.  Great fun!

 

 

 

 

 



Gardening Season Begins

Starlings class were busy last week preparing the gardening plots for the summer growing season! They added compost to the soil and planted vegetable seeds into their class plot. Fingers crossed that we'll get a bumper crop again this year.

Wild Wales

What a fantastic adventure the Year 4's had last week in North Wales! They went to the Arete Outdoor Centre in LLanrug for 4 days and 3 nights, and did a wide range of adventure activities. They were all fantastic and enjoyed the trip immensely! Well done Year 4, you should be very proud of yourselves. Most importantly, they all now know how to wash up, set the table for meal times, hoover, make their beds and look after their clothes; so make good use of their new skills parents!

River Reflection

Last week Starlings class spent some time by the river in Arley, using the time to reflect on the use of water in pilgrimages and religions. They spent 5 minutes sitting still and in silence (a big challenge!) looking at the water. They then used water colours and pencils to create paintings of the river and view.

 

Rock Study

Last week Starlings class looked at a range of rocks and sorted them into sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic using the descriptions of each. They got them mostly correct, well done!
